The initial 0.1 release of TinyDB was developed by Sam Madden, Wei Hong, Joe Hellerstein, and Kyle Stanek during the Spring and Summer of 2002 at Intel-Research Berkeley and UC Berkeley. Elements of the design were inspired by discussions with Michael Franklin and David Culler, as well as a number of other individuals in the Berkeley TinyOS and Telegraph research projects.
